The Prime Minister of The Bahamas, Perry Christie, has made the following statement ahead of the approaching Hurricane Sandy:

“The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) fully activated its National Emergency Operations Centre as of 12 noon October 24, 2012.

Schools and Government offices to close for Sandy

Prime Minister Christie announced today that due to Hurricane Sandy all government and private schools and government offices will be closed tomorrow and Friday.

Prime Minister Christie announced today that due to Hurricane Sandy all government and private schools and government offices will be closed tomorrow and Friday.

Mr Christie also announced that the airport and bridges will close as of 7 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday) morning.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has been activated.

OEFThe One Eleuthera Foundation is celebrating the success of its latest venture—a health and wellness boot camp that attracted over 100 participants.

One Eleuthera is a non-profit organization, launched this year, that funds projects on the island. It channels investment into education, heritage and culture, economic development, environmental sustainability and health and wellness.

As part of its work in the latter sector, the foundation developed the Step Up to Health: 6 Weeks to Wellness/Fitness Boot Camp, which began in September and encouraged Eleutherans to make lifestyle changes to improve their health.
