The Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB) and the Insurance Commission of The Bahamas (ICB) announced today that a special Selection Committee has decided on the recipients for the two scholarships being provided for the Associates in Captive Insurance (ACI) designation.

BFSB is partnering with the ICB on the scholarships for The International Center for Captive Insurance Education (ICCIE) Course.

Chief executive officer Aliya Allen says: “ICCIE is the first and only comprehensive captive insurance education programme in North America, and its courses are relevant to any domicile around the world. The ACI designation is recognized and respected globally.”

The recipients are Anastasia Campbell, Associate in the Corporate & Financial Services Group (including the insurance sector) at Graham Thompson and Sanchez R Brooks, ACII, underwriter at Summit Insurance Company Ltd.

The Selection Committee was impressed, particularly, with the track record of both applicants in terms of their dedication to enhancing their skills sets through ongoing professional development. Additionally, the personal statements from both spoke to their perceived role in the development of the captives sector and the financial services industry as a whole.

BFSB has been promoting the insurance sector, inclusive of captives, as part of its strategic and business development efforts for a number of years now.

The organization regularly participates in international conferences such as CICA and RIMS, and hosts annual insurance-relevant industry briefings and seminars.

The scholarship initiative was launched this year, in collaboration with the Bahamas Insurance Association and the Insurance Institute of The Bahamas, both of which appointed representatives to the planning and scholarship committees.

The Ministry of Financial Services also joined in as an integral part of the Selection Committee.

Executives from the hotels at Baha Mar–The Baha Mar Casino & Hotel, The Grand Hyatt, The Mondrian and The Rosewood–recently met with the Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe and representatives from the Ministry of Tourism. Click on the photo (below) to view full size.

The Grand Bahama Port Authority Ltd (GBPA) and Port Group Ltd (PGL) have announced the resignation of Ian Fair as chairman and director of both companies effective today.
