Insurance Commission celebrates 10 years Michelle Fields

The Insurance Commission of The Bahamas(ICB) is celebrating its 10th year anniversary as an independent regulator.

The commission hosted a press conference at its headquarters on East Bay Street, June 25, 2019 to announce plans to recognize this milestone.

On July 2, 2009 a new Insurance Act established the ICB as an independent corporate body, succeeding the Office of the Registrar of Insurance Companies.

The commission’s mandate is to protect the interest of the insuring public through supervision of insurance institutions operating in and from within The Bahamas.

Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis tabled the inaugural Annual Report of the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit in the House of Assembly 19 June, during his contribution to the 2019/20 Budget debate.

The Annual Report covers the period May 2018 to April 2019 and provides details on the background of the Delivery Unit, as well the methodology employed, specific baseline information, key performance indicators and targets of each of the identified priority areas.

Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis has announced that $8 billion in international investments have been approved as of May 2019.

That amount includes the $100 million Carnival Cruise Port for Grand Bahama, and new developments throughout the island chain, he said.

The Prime Minister was contributing to the 2019/20 Budget Debate in the House of Assembly June 19, 2019.

CTO Tourism AwardsDirector general of The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, Joy Jibrilu, led The Bahamas contingent at the recent Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Week 2019, in New York City.

The Bahamas team included the local staff of the Bahamas Tourist Office, New York, as well as a Bahamian culinary team that represented The Bahamas in CTO’s Annual Rum and Rhythm Festival.

Cabinet Office appoints new Governor General

The Cabinet Office has announced that the Governor General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Dame Marguerite Pindling, will be stepping down 28 June 2019. She will be replaced by diplomat Cornelius Smith.

The Cabinet Office has announced that the Governor General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Dame Marguerite Pindling, will be stepping down 28 June 2019.

Dame Marguerite served as Governor General from 8th July 2014.

Cornelius Smith will be appointed as the next Governor General of The Bahamas with effect 28 June 2019.

Aristo Development announced this week it has completed construction on the $30 million luxury residential Thirty Six development on Paradise Island with the first residents taking occupancy.
