I congratulate you on the assumption of your duties to preside over the work of this august Body during its Sixty-Seventh Session and assure you of my Delegation’s support and cooperation throughout. I also commend your predecessor, H.E. Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz AI-Nasser for his stewardship of the previous Session of the General Assembly.

The Bahamas commends the United Nations for the convening and outcome of the High-level Meeting on the Rule of Law at the National and International Levels last Monday. The Bahamas has committed itself to the principle of the Rule of Law and to ensuring good governance for the benefit of the entire populace of The Bahamas. The Bahamas is committed also to adhering to the rule at law at the international level and to upholding the principles of the Charter of this organization.

Private Public PartnershipThe government held political consultations with a cross-section of stakeholders during the inaugural Bahamas Economic Recovery Strategy Meeting September 27.

Minister of Investment Khaalis Rolle said that he saw the talks as crucial to the nation’s economic recovery and to help secure much needed jobs.

“For too long we’ve done things in a way that wasn’t consistent with true private/public sector partnership and today we’re going to begin that dialogue,” he said.

Bahamas Petroleum (LON:BPC) Out of its Hands: All that the Company can do, it has done, or is in the process of doing. That a referendum will be held by the Bahamian Government largely leaves its future in the hands of the people of the Bahamas, so it is only right that the Company now spend its time, effort and funds on supporting a “Yes” campaign. If they are successful, then the farm-outs can proceed with vigour, which will be necessary, as the wells will be up to 22,500ft deep means that it could be a 300 day well (assuming 25m per day drill speed) and the cost will be north of $100mm (Drillship up to 4,000ft @~$200m/day).
