MOTA: Abaco businesses are recovering

Ministry of Tourism and Aviation has announced that many hotels, ferry services, airlines, tour operators and attractions have resumed business in The Abacos four months after Hurricane Dorian devastated the island chain. Read an update from the Ministry here.

NASSAU, Bahamas – February 2020 (Tourism Today/MOTA) – Just four months after Hurricane Dorian left a devastating impact on the northern islands in The Bahamas, The Abacos–a 120-mile chain of islands and cays–are already witnessing a wave of progress.

Many hotels, ferry services, airlines, tour operators and attractions resumed business in The Abacos, a destination beloved for its natural beauty, white sand beaches and world-class sailing. While Marsh Harbour, Central and Northern Abaco and several cays throughout the destination are in the midst of rebuilding, several businesses are already welcoming guests with open arms.

In his first National Report for 2020, Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis announced two major developments for the storm-ravaged islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama, and provided an update on the government’s reconstruction programme post-Hurricane Dorian.

A heads of agreement will be signed February 13 for a $300 million five-star residential resort and marina development in South Abaco.

The Bahamas Landfall Series was introduced by the BFSB as a promotional tool to provide financial services intermediaries and other service providers with updates on legislative and business developments in The Bahamas.

Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis is slated to officiate at the groundbreaking ceremony for Leno Corporate Centre in Nassau February 10.

Designed by local architect Wellington Woods, the 5-storey contemporary glass and steel building atop the hill on Collins Avenue is a $25 million investment by the company.

In the Monetary Policy Committee Press Briefing Rolle said that the Bahamian economy grew slower last year due to the impact of Hurricane Dorian.
