Most things in life can benefit from a woman’s touch, and luxury private islands are no different. At Over Yonder Cay, nestled in the Exuma chain in The Bahamas 70 miles from Nassau, the island’s administrator is Michelle Woods.

During our visit to The Bahamas in July, we sat down with Michelle to discuss the island’s appeal to both women and men, the array of amenities on offer, and the essence of what makes Over Yonder Cay so special.

She began by talking about the opportunities on and around the island – which sleeps up to 28 guests in four newly built villas – for both relaxation and action-packed fun.

“I think being on the beach in general is probably enjoyed by women more than men,” she said. “Being able to relax and just laying out in the sun. Men tend to want to do a little bit more and we’re able to offer that here, which is quite nice because I think it’s important for any couple when they go on vacation together for both of them to have something to do.”

One of the island’s most prized amenities is its gym, and Michelle elaborated on what makes it stand out from your average work-out room..

“The gym is very light, it faces the East, and has a huge wall of windows so especially if you’re there in the morning, you’re able to get the full sunlight,” she said. “And they actually retract all the way back so you can even have a work out outside if you care to. It’s a pleasure to work in there.

“We’re also able to bring in a fitness instructor to help you work out and give you some extra motivation.”

So what does she believe lies at the heart of what draws visitors from across the world to Over Yonder Cay?

“Absolutely the water,” she said in a heartbeat. “There’s not too many places in the world like it. The snorkeling around here and the scuba diving are absolutely phenomenal. It’s absolutely clear all the way down and we even have a reef right off our cay. Even if you’re not a swimmer you can fed the fish. Just being able to look down into the water is gorgeous.”
