Higgs & Johnson has announced that Oscar Johnson Jr, currently partner and head of litigation, has been appointed as the new managing partner of the firm effective 2 July, 2012.

He succeeds Philip Dunkley, QC, who had management responsibility of the firm from 1999-2006 and again from 2009-2012. He will remain as senior partner of the firm.

Johnson joined the firm as an associate in 1985 and became a partner in 1992.

He practices a full range of corporate and commercial law, specializing in commercial and civil litigation, merchant shipping and admiralty law, insurance, international finance and employment law. Johnson has served as a member of The Bridge Authority, St Andrew’s School Board of Directors, the Disciplinary Tribunal, the Arbitration Tribunals, and as advisor to the Nassau Tourism and Development Board.

Higgs & Johnson is headquartered in The Bahamas at Ocean Centre at Montagu, Nassau, with offices throughout The Bahamas and in the Cayman Islands.

Past president of the Bahamas Association of Compliance Officers, Natasha Rolle-Bastien, has urged financial services providers to nurture a culture of integrity and develop "value-based systems" that promote ethical behaviour.

Newly installed Minister of Tourism, Obie Wilchcombe, says that technology and social media will be the focus of the Ministry's promotional campaigns moving forward. Watch an interview with Wilchcombe here.
