BISXThe Bahamas International Securities Exchange (BISX) has released its trading statistics for the six-month period ending June 28, 2019, recording a year to date increase of 50.51 or 2.42% in the BISX All-Share Index.

For the six-month period ending June 28, 2019 the BISX All-Share Index closed at 2,160.46. This represents a year to date increase of 50.51 or 2.42%. By comparison for the six-month period ending June 29, 2018 the BISX All-Share Index closed at 1,971.53. This represented a year to date decrease of 92.04 or -4.46%.

The bank has been nominated for Trust Company of the Year in four categories: Switzerland; Hong Kong and Singapore; The Bahamas, Bermuda and Cayman; and Guernsey.

The Bahamas is experiencing booming tourism growth on land and sea in 2019, according to a June The Central Bank of The Bahamas report. The territory’s visitor arrivals grew by 13.2 per cent in the first six months of the year, outpacing the 3.1 per cent increase recorded during the same period in 2018.

The territory’s visitor arrivals grew by 13.2 percent in the first six months of the year, outpacing the 3.1 percent increase recorded during the same period in 2018.

The Ministry of Finance announced last week that Bahamas Government Registered Stocks (BGRS) have been approved for listing on the Bahamas International Securities Exchange (BISX).

In a statement the Ministry said: “This major step forward paves the way for Bahamians to be able to buy and sell government bonds on the local securities exchange, and track the value of their investments using the online marketplace.”

The Access Accelerator, Small Business Development Centre (SBDC) has assisted Cheryl’s Bahamas Taxi & Tours in accessing $230,000 in debt financing from the Royal Bank of Canada.

Cheryl Cambridge, owner of Cheryl’s Bahamas Taxi & Tours began her taxi business in Grand Bahama in the early 1980s.

CTOThe Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has announced that Elizabeth Thompson, Barbados’ ambassador to the United Nations, will deliver the keynote address at the Sustainable Tourism Conference (#STC2019) in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The 26-29 August conference, which will address some key issues relating to sustainability, is being organised in partnership with the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority.

MOTA sees group bookings grow 9 per cent

The Ministry of Tourism and Aviation has partnered with Cvent–a meeting, events, and hospitality management technology company–growing group bookings for meetings by 9 per cent in the first year of the partnership.

CVENTNassau, Bahamas – The Ministry of Tourism and Aviation (MOTA) has hit a homerun through a partnership with Cvent – a leading meeting, events, and hospitality management technology company.

In just a year of the partnership, The Islands Of The Bahamas has seen group bookings for meetings increase by nine percent. That’s a room night generation of 678,310, which officials say “built a strong pipeline”, as meeting planner contacts grew by 32 percent. The Bahamas is also number one on Cvent’s annual list of top destinations for meetings and events in the region. Director General of Tourism Joy Jibrilu said this partnership has certainly benefited the destination.

Minister of State for Grand Bahama in the Office of the Prime Minister Kwasi Thompson updated attendees of the Tech Hub Committee Meeting on current and future tech initiatives during a recent event held at the British Colonial Hilton.

The committee was established to advise the government on creation of Grand Bahama as a tech hub.
