The Acting Prime Minister Philip Davis brought remarks at the grand celebration to commemorate the 238th Independence of the United States, hosted by the US Embassy and USNORTHCOM at Old Fort Bay Club, July 3, 2013.
“Almost 40 years ago on this historic day that this nation was born, the United States established diplomatic relations with The Bahamas solidifying the friendship of our two countries and acknowledging the same sovereign and human rights the United States declared for itself almost two and a half centuries ago,” Davis said.
Senior government officials, members of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and other dignitaries joined top US officials and guests including Chargé d’Affaires, US Embassy, John Dinkelman and deputy director of strategy, policy and plans, North American Aerospace Defence Command and United States Northern Command, Brigadier General Joseph Whitlock.
