International conference promotes Caribbean investment

Leading entrepreneurs are to gather in New York to promote the Caribbean as a region in which to invest. The Invest Caribbean Now conference will take place Marriot Marquis, Times Square, June 6, 2012.

International investors will be urged to consider opportunities in the Caribbean at a conference taking place in New York next month.


Topics at the Invest Caribbean Now event include “China, India, Brazil…is The Caribbean next?” and “Private Equity Investment in the Caribbean.”

The conference will also cover the region’s potential for renewable energy operations and how entrepreneurs can take advantage of opportunities arising in Caribbean countries.

Speakers include Jonathan Blue, chairman of Blue Equity, Solamon Energy Corp president Jay Yeo, and a representative from the US Department of Commerce’s International Trade Agency.

In a special ceremony, business tycoon and founder of the Virgin brand Sir Richard Branson will be awarded the first Invest Caribbean Now Leadership Award for his services to entrepreneurship. Chief entrepreneurship officer of the Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship, Caribbean, Lisa Lake, will also address the conference to highlight investment opportunities.

Bahamas Financial Services Board will be travelling to the US and Europe to promote the jurisdiction through its Bahamas Landfall seminars next month. The organization will also be attending the STEP Canada conference in Toronto, Transcontinental Trusts 2012 in Geneva and the US Latin American Tax Planning Strategies Conference in Miami.

Parliamentary sessions got underway in Nassau on Wednesday as the House of Assembly welcomed the new PLP government. Photos after the jump.
