Minister for Grand Bahama Kwasi Thompson officially opened the Information and Communications Technology Summer Programme June 27, 2018 at the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) in Grand Bahama.
The Minister said the programme will give young Bahamians an opportunity for free education in an industry that is quickly expanding in Grand Bahama.
“Anyone who knows me, knows that I am very passionate about technology,” Minister Thompson told the BTVI student body, along with other guests.
“I’m not only passionate about technology, but I’m passionate about what technology means for Grand Bahama.”
“For many years, we’ve been focused on tourism and industry and while both of those products have served us well, there is one lesson that the hurricane taught us: the people of Grand Bahama must have a third pillar. And technology is the thing that will drive us into the future.”
Minister Thompson said that the students taking part would obtain international ICT certifications upon completion.
