Bahamas to host Caribbean forum on sustainable growth

The IDB Group and civil society organizations’ representatives from seven Caribbean region countries (The Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago) will meet on June 1 in Nassau to discuss sustainable development.

ALT TAG HEREThe IDB Group and Civil Society Organizations’ representatives from 7 Caribbean countries (The Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago) will meet on June 1st in Nassau, The Bahamas.

The forum will be hosted by the Vice President for Countries, Alexandre Meira da Rosa with the special presence of high Government authorities and leaders of civil society and other development actors to discuss key economic and social trends and challenges for the region under the perspective of Sustainable Growth.


The meeting will feature discussions about the future and sustainability of civil society organizations (CSOs) in alignment with their Governments development efforts. The program includes other topics such as climate change, sustainable cities, and health challenges. The forum will include the innovation of an IDEATHON (hackathon of ideas) on Sustainable Growth & Sustainable Cities looking for innovative solutions to build safety and the cities of the future.

The IDB Group and the Civil Society sustains a systematic dialogue with civil society organizations (CSOs) from 26 countries of Latin American and the Caribbean, which includes information, dialogue, consultations, collaboration and partnership. As part of a wide range of activities, the IDB hold a strategic meeting annually with Caribbean civil society organizations. This space provides an opportunity to exchange technical experiences and perspectives on development challenges and looking for innovative solutions.

Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe said recently that he is not afraid of growth in Cuba’s tourism industry and projected further growth in the local market.

The second annual Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival presented by BTC was an extraordinary success, according to Bahamas National Festival Commission chairman Paul Major.
