“Our mission at the office of the Attorney-General is to promote justice in the commonwealth of The Bahamas through the delivery of comprehensive and efficient legal services to the government,” says Delaney in the introduction.
“During 2011, progress continued over several areas of the Attorney-General’s portfolio. By this annual report I share with you highlights of that progress, as well as developments occurring elsewhere in the justice system. The report concludes with the direction that has been set for 2012.”
The report goes on to catalogue the work done by the OAG over the last 12 months including the creation of the a website, the renovation and expansion of the Supreme Court and courtrooms, and the introduction of a raft of financial services acts including: the Securities Industry Act 2011; the Rule Against Perpetuities (Abolition) Act, 2011; and the Trustee (Amendment) Act, 2011, among others.
The OAG’s office “coordinated the most comprehensive legislative action in support of the financial services industry (including that related to the Shipping Industry) since the legislative restructuring of that sector in year 2000,” according to the report. “Welcomed by the industry, the major legislative effort included regulatory, product, administrative and international cooperation measures.”
