The Bahamas Development Bank (BDB) is presently making plans to launch a new branding campaign and expansion of its services.

BDB executives last week met with Bahamas Information Services to assist in facilitating the future initiatives of the bank for providing optimal service.

The government of The Bahamas is “moving with the speed necessary” to ensure the future socio-economic sustainability of Grand Bahama and Abaco, parts of which were devastated by Hurricane Dorian, Minister of Social Services and Urban Development Frankie Campbell said Wednesday.

Minister Campbell warned that Small-Island Developing States (SIDS) such as The Bahamas, face the reality that hurricanes of the magnitude of Dorian could become more common because of the effects of climate change.

Domestic economic developments, according to the latest report by The Central Bank of The Bahamas, remained healthy through August.

However, this pre-dates the passage of Hurricane Dorian which caused extensive damages to private and public sector infrastructure in Grand Bahama and Abaco.

The Bahamas remains open for tourism business despite the destruction caused in parts of the Northern Bahamas by Hurricane Dorian, Acting Minister of Tourism and Aviation Frankie Campbell said recently.

Addressing more than 200 participants and officials attending the Opening Ceremony of the 2019 Optimist North America Championship underway in Montagu Bay, Minister Campbell told the group that The Bahamas is a 16-island destination – 14 of which were not impacted and/or adversely impacted by Hurricane Dorian.

FREEPORT, Bahamas, Sept. 30, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — Grand Bahama Shipyard today announced that it dry-docked its first vessel since reopening the shipyard shortly after Hurricane Dorian hit The Bahamas earlier this month. Taipei Trader, a 9,932-ton containership operated by Lomar Shipping Limited, docked at the No. 3 dock this week, a major step in the return of normal operations to the shipyard.

Taipei Trader [full size photo] first docked at the yard on August 25 for a routine program including propulsion and thruster maintenance, and preparation of the hull for protective coating application. On August 30, in accordance with the shipyard’s hurricane procedures, the vessel had to be undocked and depart the shipyard due to the projected path of Hurricane Dorian.

Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis met with the director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, to discuss how the organization can increase its assistance to Hurricane Dorian reconstruction and recovery efforts in Abaco and Grand Bahama.

Dr Ghebreyesus is the first WHO director-general to visit The Bahamas.
