LANDOVER, Md., Nov. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Prince Khaled bin Sultan of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been selected as this year’s Perseus award winner. The Perseus Award recognizes yacht owners who have demonstrated exemplary effort and contribution toward marine wildlife conservation.

“It is a great honor to be recognized for my involvement in marine conservation,” said HRH Prince Khaled bin Sultan. He added, “It is a privilege to be able to support such worthwhile work and to contribute to ocean conservation in a meaningful and tangible way.”

Prince Khaled is the founder of the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation, dedicated to conservation of the world’s oceans. For the past eleven years Prince Khaled has spearheaded the Foundation through his personal leadership, financial support, and by making the ships and aircraft of the Golden Fleet available to scientists from around the world to conduct research under the banner of Science Without Borders®.

A group of scientists from academic institutions worldwide make up the Foundation’s core science team, supplemented by graduate and postdoctoral students through the Living Oceans Foundation’s fellowship program. The Foundation’s research projects are collaborative; engaging regional and local scientists as part of the scientific team. The Foundation then presents the research findings back to the host government to guide marine resource management decisions.

In the past eleven years the Foundation has conducted research in the Red Sea, the Seychelles, The Bahamas, Jamaica, Colombia, St Kitts and Nevis, the Galapagos and is currently mapping and surveying coral reefs in French Polynesia.
