US President Barack Obama and Bahamas Deputy Prime Minister Brent Symonette joined 32 other Heads of State and Government from the region in the Sixth Summit of the Americas held in Cartagena, Columbia, April 14-15.

US President Barack Obama and Bahamas Deputy Prime Minister Brent Symonette joined 32 other Heads of State and Government from the region in the Sixth Summit of the Americas held in Cartagena, Columbia, April 14-15.

The Summit, which occurs every three years, offers the opportunity for countries throughout the Americas to jointly define a hemispheric agenda at the highest level to address urgent challenges and propel positive change.

The central theme of this year’s Summit was Connecting the Americas: Partners for Prosperity with a focus on the role of regional cooperation in overcoming the Hemisphere’s greatest challenges, including poverty and inequality, citizen security, natural disasters and access to technology.

The Bahamas International Film Festival and the Bahamas Video Cooperative will present a panel discussion with guest speaker Barry Baeres April 24, 2012. The session will address financing, producing and distribution processes within the industry.

Local television broadcaster ZNS has reported that a major supermarket store chain has been sold to a competitor, while Arawak Port Development Company shares have been launched on the local stock exchange. Watch the full report here.
