Event highlights ICT issuesInformation and communications technology providers from around the Caribbean have come together this week to attend one of the industry’s biggest events and discuss issues impacting the sector.

The CANTO Annual Conference, hosted by the Caribbean National Telecommunications Organisation (CANTO), is taking place this week in Panama with the theme ‘Guiding Digital Adoption to Lead the Global Market’.

In a series of roundtables, workshops, presentations and seminars, ICT stakeholders will be invited to learn and discuss topics such as innovative entrepreneurship, disaster mitigation and recovery, regulatory challenges and opportunities and cybersecurity.


There will also be a panel discussion on disruptive technology – assessing the impact of Artifical Intelligence, Big Data and Mobile Money on the region.

Ajit Pai, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission will deliver the keynote address. Other speakers on the agenda include Inge Smidts, CEO, C&W Communications and Gabriel Recalde, manager, Central America and the Caribbean, Google.

The 2018 CANTO Conference runs 22-25 July at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Panama.

The dates for the annual series of Business Outlook conferences have been announced, kicking off on September 13 in Andros and finishing up in Nassau January 17, 2019. See the full list of events here.

Stakeholders from the Caribbean energy sector are meeting this week to discuss key issues affecting the industry, including sustainable financing, renewables and energy efficiency.
