The Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB) will host a ‘Fintech 101’ event next week to help industry professionals get up to speed on the latest developments in financial technology.
The seminar, which is being organised by the BFSB in partnership with Aliv, takes place December 13 at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar under the theme ‘Transforming Financial Markets With Fintech’.
Topics on the agenda include corporate financing, crypto assets, cyber security, fintech regulations and fintech onboarding standards.
The BFSB recently joined with Aliv for a three-year partnership that will facilitate the organisation in leveraging technology to grow the financial services sector. This upcoming seminar is the latest in a series of discussions and round tables intended to enhance industry understanding and collaboration in the rapidly evolving fintech space.
The BFSB has also created a fintech working group to look at all aspects of disruptive technology and find opportunities for Bahamian providers. The group has identified several gaps in the market including initial coin offerings, online trading services, crypto exchanges and portfolio management.
Stakeholders from the BFSB and the Ministry of Financial Services are hoping to create a strategic plan for fintech development in The Bahamas and, in the long term, adopt a sandbox approach where new products and services can be trialled in a supervised environment.
