PRESS RELEASE – The new-look, redesigned January-July 2012 issue of The Bahamas Investor is now out. The Spring-Summer issue is packed with informative, in-depth profiles and features, as well as a 32-page Investor Resource Guide, an Economic Report and an Invest Grand Bahama special advertising section.
On the cover of the new issue is Viana Gardiner, acting director of investments at Bahamas Investment Authority (BIA). The BIA is instrumental in the development and progression of foreign direct investment (FDI) into The Bahamas. Acting as the administrative arm of the National Economic Council (NEC)–a Cabinet sub-committee headed by Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham–the BIA implements the government’s national development policy and helps to facilitate those projects that receive the green light.
Gardiner says large projects such as the Baha Mar resort development, with which the BIA has been deeply involved, are an encouraging sign of investment in the jurisdiction. FDI in The Bahamas in 2010 stood at $1.2 billion, up markedly from the year before. “I suspect that this increase is going to continue,” notes Gardiner. “There is definitely an increased level of interest in doing business in this country.”
The outlook for overall economic growth may be modest, but large infrastructure projects, such as the airport redevelopment and the multi-million dollar national sports centre, are injecting much needed funds into the economy, whilst putting in place building blocks for future growth. The 20-page Economic Report takes an in-depth look at those projects, as well as other business ventures that are contributing to the economy, despite the global economic downturn.
Other features in this issue include expert commentary on a new dawn in macroeconomics from Julius Baer’s chief economist, as well as an executive profile on the first Bahamian and the first woman to hold the position of trust centre head at Credit Suisse, Antoinette Russell.
The Invest Grand Bahama advertising supplement is an 18-page special section jammed with investing information, along with corporate profiles of the island’s top businesses, offering clear testimony as to why Grand Bahama is the strategic choice for forward-looking companies.
