The Bahamas Association of Compliance Officers (BACO) has announced that it will award the prestigious Cheryl Bazard Founding President Award to Wendy Warren, former chief executive officer and executive director of the Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB).

The award will be presented on January 27 during the 12th Annual Gala Banquet and Awards Ceremony at the Sheraton, Cable Beach.

The award is given to those individuals who have greatly supported BACO throughout the years and who have contributed significantly to the financial services industry in the jurisdiction.

“Throughout Wendy’s tenure at BFSB, she has been a great supporter of BACO and its initiatives, making a platform available to the association to be a director on the board; thus allowing us to contribute in a more meaningful and significant way to the decisions that affect our dynamic industry,” BACO said earlier this week.

BACO was established in 1999 by the founding president Cheryl Bazard along with the founding executive committee.

BACO is made up of compliance officers throughout The Bahamas and has more than 100 members. Through its partnership with the International Compliance Association (ICA), the association has produced 229 certified compliance professionals throughout The Bahamas.

This week, Brookfield Asset Management announced that it was walking away from a debt-for-equity deal for Atlantis Paradise Island, leaving the future ownership of the resort in some uncertainty. Kerzner International, however, will continue to operate the mega-resort and other Paradise Island properties.

In an interview with ZNS television channel, Sports Minister Charles Maynard called the launch of the new multi-million dollar sports stadium as an "historic event" for The Bahamas, offering many opportunities for businesses. Watch the video here.
