Key players in the airline and airport industry responsible for developing new routes to, from and within the Americas are set to touch down in The Bahamas next year, as the Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD) prepares to host the fifth Routes Americas forum.

The annual event attracts more than 200 leaders in the airline and airport industry from North, Central and South America, and the Caribbean for strategic networking on air service development.

The forum is scheduled to take place at Atlantis, Paradise Island, from February 19-21, 2012.

“We are very excited to have the opportunity to host the 2012 Routes Americas and to be able to receive and entertain delegates from around the world,”?says Stewart Steeves, president and chief executive officer at NAD, the company charged with the operation and redevelopment of the Lynden Pindling International Airport.

“Together with our partners, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, Atlantis and other tourism stakeholders, we hope to use next year’s forum to showcase The Bahamas and the incredible development that is taking place on Nassau and Paradise Island,” says Steeves.

Senior vice president of Routes Americas, Dave Stroud, is confident that NAD–a Bahamian-owned company under a 10-year management agreement with Vancouver Airport Services (YVRAS)–will stage a successful event.

“It is with eager anticipation that we hand the event over to the Nassau Airport Development Company and look forward to seeing how they build on the success of this event for next year,”?says Stroud.

“The hosts are right in the midst of a massive $409-million redevelopment project, which will provide an excellent opportunity to give delegates a first-hand experience of what such a task involves. I am confident that the fifth Routes Americas will leave a big and positive impression with delegates.”

Last month, NAD held its official opening ceremony for the new US Departures Terminal, a 247,000 sq ft facility.

The new terminal is slated to commence operation on March 16.

Robert Moore, chief executive officer and co-founder of New York-based Media Labs Inc spoke on the topic of Leveraging Social Media–Turning Traffic Into Revenue on the first day of the Domain Roundtable conference held in Atlantis this week. The industry expert said building a social media presence was imperative to gaining traffic.

Following the groundbreaking of Baha Mar last month, now the real work begins on the multi-billion dollar Cable Beach development. The Bahamian project developers are looking to their foreign partners to deliver on time, to budget and to the required standards.
