Region sees spike in travel demand

The Expedia Group has reported that travel demand for the Caribbean region has continued to increase on its websites. Nassau was among those top in-demand markets during the third quarter of this year.

ALT TAG HEREThe Expedia Group has reported that travel demand for the Caribbean region has continued to increase on its websites. Top in-demand markets during the third quarter of this year when compared to the same time in 2015 included:

  • Punta Cana, Dominican Republic with an increase of nearly 25 per cent
  • Nassau, Bahamas with an increase of nearly 20 per cent
  • Ocho Rios, Jamaica with an increase of more than 50 per cent

While the US continues to be the top feeder market for most of the Caribbean, Punta Cana has seen an increase of more than 30 per cent from Brazilian travellers, as well as an increase of 20 per cent in travel demand from France in the third quarter of 2016 when compared to third quarter of 2015.

Hong Kong conglomerate Chow Tai Fook Enterprises (CTFE) has confirmed its purchase of the unfinished $3.5b Baha Mar resort casino in The Bahamas.

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team led by Jarkko Turunen visited The Bahamas from December 7-13 to update the economic and financial outlook following Hurricane Matthew. Read the report here.
