ELEUTHERA, The Bahamas, May 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The Cove, Eleuthera Resort won the prestigious Development of the Year Award at the Caribbean Hotel & Resort Investment Summit (CHRIS),  held April 28-29 at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Miami.


The Cove, Eleuthera Resort and Spa thecoveeleuthera.com is a luxury boutique hotel offering 70 rooms in a myriad of villa and suite combinations. The resort was transformed from a hurricane damaged 20-room resort by developer Sidney D. Torres IV, who personally oversaw the design and construction of the property, into a modern resort offering every amenity in a unique idyllic and tranquil natural environment, spread over 40 lush acres located on the northwest side of Eleuthera in the Bahamas.  The Cove is gated, private, and offers guests two pink sand beaches, a 110 ft. Infiniti pool and a natural grassy point that extends 500 feet over the Caribbean water.  Guests have a range of accommodations to choose from. They can enjoy the serenity of the Bahamas in a well-appointed oceanfront 3-bedroom villa complete with private staff, pool and outdoor shower, or an oceanfront Caribbean Cove suite, only steps from the water. Imported cashmere zoysia grass covers the property. A new spa and gym was added this spring.

The Cove, Eleuthera is a Bahamian island legend, reborn in 2013 with new style and luxury. Only 45 minutes by air from South Florida via The Cove’s private charter jet, all villas, guest rooms and suites have been renovated to blend urban chic with island charm with direct access to the turquoise blue waters of the Caribbean. Finalists in the Development of the Year 2013 category also included The Ritz Carlton Aruba, in Palm Beach, Aruba, and The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club, inPunta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Liam Day chaired the Development of the Year Award committee and Kent Schwarz chaired the Single Asset Transaction of the Year Award committee. The two committees were comprised of hotel industry leaders who selected, reviewed, and nominated deals. The finalist information was then sent to the CHRIS delegates for voting.

CHRIS is the Caribbean’s most important hotel and tourism investment conference.  CHRIS is hosted by Burba Hotel Network (BHN).

Vacation Express and Bahamasair in partnership with the Grand Bahama Island Tourism Sector have introduced weekly 737-400 non-stop Jet service from eight US cities to Freeport for summer 2014.

Bahamian owned and operated retailer Uniquely Bahamian Boutique has signed on as a retailer at Baha Mar–the luxury resort on Cable Beach due to open December this year.
