NEW YORK, NY–(Marketwired) – Harbour Island, Bahamas was voted “Best Island in the Caribbean” by Travel + Leisure’s most discerning travellers, taking one of the top honours in the publication’s World’s Best Awards 2015. The award was based on travellers’ ratings of their experiences in the annual World’s Best Awards 2015 readers’ survey. This is the second time that Harbour Island has received this influential award.

“We are thrilled to receive this impressive award, a fitting tribute to this lovely island that was once the capital of The Bahamas. Its laid back island appeal still manages to attract the rich, the famous and ordinary persons, who all fall for its unique charm and quaintness,” said Joy Jibrilu, Director General of Tourism for The Bahamas. “We invite everyone to discover the magical pink sand beaches, secluded coves and gorgeous coral reefs of this island treasure, and to enjoy the unique experiences that so impressed Travel + Leisure’s global travellers.”

For the last 20 years, the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards has been the travel industry’s leading barometer of the places and companies that are satisfying the most passionate and sophisticated travellers in the U.S.

According to Travel + Leisure Editor, Nathan Lump, “The Awards showcase a widely changed travel landscape, one in which exotic destinations, intimate hotels, and one-of-a-kind experiences stand out from the crowd — the preferences of individuals who have been all around the world and are seeking out ever more distinctive travel options.”

The complete survey results are available online at travelandleisure.com and will be featured in the August issue of Travel + Leisure, which goes on sale at newsstands on July 17.

Today, The Bahamas celebrates 42 years of independence and the team at The Bahamas Investor would like to congratulate the Bahamian people on more than four decades of self-governance.

Baha Mar Ltd issued a statement yesterday saying that it will not disclose any of the details of ongoing discussions with concerned parties regarding the completion of the construction of the multi-billion dollar resort on Cable Beach. Read the statement here.
