CIArbPrime Minister Perry Christie delivered remarks during a ceremony held for the installation of Officers and Executive Committee of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) last week.

The event was commemorated during a luncheon held at Luciano’s of Chicago Restaurant June 19.

Also in attendance was Minister of Financial Services Ryan Pinder, who also addressed the members and discussed arbitration as new business for The Bahamas.

The charge to the Executive Committee was given by Dame Joan Sawyer, retired chief justice of The Bahamas (1996 – 2001) and president of the Court of Appeal of the Bahamas (2001- 2010).

She was the first woman to serve in those two positions.

Retired justice Rubie Nottage presented a lecture on how arbitration works and the components that are necessary in order for arbitration to be successful.

During the luncheon, a special recognition ceremony was held for immediate past chair Bertha Cooper Rousseau for her work on the committee.

Retired justice Dr Peter Maynard served as moderator.

The Edmond de Rothschild Group, presided over by Baron Benjamin de Rothschild, has united all its entities worldwide under the name Edmond de Rothschild.

The Bahamas has been getting plenty of media coverage in the US due to Bahamasair's launch of a direct service between Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, Alabama, and Grand Bahama. Watch an interview with Carmel Churchill of the Grand Bahama Tourism Board here.
