This coming Saturday, February 25, will signal a new beginning for sports in The Bahamas when the new Thomas A Robinson National Stadium is officially opened.

Built to seat 15,000, the new stadium is a gift to The Bahamas from the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

A cast of more than 1,200 artists and performers will put on an exciting cultural show, which will also feature the traditional Junkanoo rush-out.

A display of fireworks is expected to top off the ceremony.

Minister of Tourism and Aviation Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace touted the multi-million dollar redevelopment of the airport and other infrastructure developments as being signs that the government was serious about furthering tourism in the country during his address to the Routes Americas 2012 conference held in Nassau this week. Watch a video of his speech here.

While rejecting calls for a Ministry of Financial Services, managing partner at Deloitte Bahamas Raymond Winder says the Bahamas Financial Services Board needs more funding to promote the sector successfully.
