Top regional hotel investment summit heads to The Bahamas

Atlantis Paradise Island will host the inaugural HVS Caribbean Hotel Investment Conference and Operations Summit (HVS CHICOS) in November this year. The event is expected to attract leaders in the tourism industry from all over the Caribbean region.

Leaders in the Caribbean tourism industry are expected to converge on Atlantis Paradise Island in November for the inaugural HVS Caribbean Hotel Investment Conference and Operations Summit (HVS CHICOS), which will examine opportunities for growth within the market.


Minister of Tourism and Aviation Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace is among those scheduled to speak at the two-day event which takes place November 10-11, 2011, and is organized by hospitality consulting firm HVS.

Additional speakers include Adam Rosenburg, managing director and global head of gaming at The Goldman Sachs Group, managing director of corporate banking at FirstCaribbean Mark Young and Barry Lewin, senior vice president of The Blackstone Group’s Caribbean division.

“The Caribbean island region offers investors complex, but rewarding, opportunities for hotel and resort development,” says HVS president Steve Rushmore. “CHICOS 2011 will prove to be a landmark conference benefitting all interested in this region’s lodging industry.”

Many of the major hotel chains will also be represented at the event. Attendees will hear from Pat McCudden, senior vice president of real estate and development at the Hyatt Hotels Corporation; Simon Suarez, senior vice president of development Caribbean and Latin America at Hilton Worldwide; and Marriott International’s vice president of its Caribbean and Latin American region, Alejandro Acevedo.

Baha Mar Resorts president Don Robinson will also be speaking.

HVS will use part of the proceeds from the event to fund hospitality and tourism education and training throughout the Caribbean.

American travel company IBC Travel launches regular service from Palm Beach to the Family Island of Abaco. The flight is in addition to routes already running between Fort Lauderdale and Bimini.

Around 200 delegates converged on the Colonial Hilton Hotel in downtown Nassau yesterday to discuss issues key to the further development of the financial services sector in The Bahamas. Addresses covered a diverse range of topics including emerging markets in Latin America and the application of SMART Funds in wealth management.
