NASSAU, The Bahamas – The restoration of the Montagu Beach in New Providence has commenced.
The work, which is part of the Montagu Foreshore Improvement Project, consists of the construction of groynes that will be backfilled with sand.
The restored beach will extend along the shoreline from Fort Montagu to the fishermen’s dock in the east.
The redevelopment is being carried out in phases to allow access to the beach during the construction period.
The project was officially launched in September and is sponsored by Kerzner International.
Montagu Foreshore Improvement Project is proceeding in tandem with ongoing efforts to redevelop downtown Nassau and follows the completion of the Saunders Beach restoration initiative.
As part of the Montagu Foreshore Improvement Project, rocks are dumped on Montagu Beach and distributed into the water to construct of a series of groynes.
