Silver Airways Corp., a new regional carrier launched with assets from the former Gulfstream International Airlines, took delivery of its first Saab 340Bplus aircraft today.

Unveiled as the centerpiece of a special launch event held today at the carrier’s Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport headquarters, the modern, 34-seat aircraft is the first to feature the new Silver Airways livery.

Silver AirwaysGulfstream International Airlines has announced that it is adopting a new name and brand: Silver Airways.

Gulfstream International Airlines was founded in May 2011 when Victory Park Capital, a Chicago-based investment firm, acquired select assets from the former Gulfstream International Airlines, which filed for bankruptcy in November 2010. Silver Airways continues the evolution of the carrier under Victory Park.

Dec. 8/11 (Matt Fitzgerald) – Former US Open men’s champion and world No. 14 Andy Roddick headlined a field of tennis stars at the 11th annual Mark Knowles Celebrity Tennis Invitational that raised $150,000 for local charities this past weekend at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island. The event, which entertained a record spectator crowd, has now eclipsed $800,000 in total donations.

Roddick was slated to participate in 2009 but was forced to withdraw due to injury. He was excited to make his debut appearance at the event. “It’s for a worthy cause, so I’m just glad to be here,” the American told The Bahamas Tribune.

“There’s a bigger cause to how well we play tennis this week. Most of us are in our off season, so it’s just fun. I had some in-laws and some friends come down too, so it’s been a great getaway for us. We had some fun too.”

The Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas (ZNS) has signed a contract with digital integration company Kit Digital Inc to upgrade the TV broadcaster's facilities from analog to digital. The contract, worth $2.4 million, is part of a $5-million government fund allocation for modernization.

ZNS logoNASSAU, The Bahamas – Officials at the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas (ZNS) yesterday signed a multi-million-dollar deal with Kit Digital Inc [NASDAQ: KITD], a publicly traded digital integration company, to carry out an upgrade of the television broadcaster’s facilities from analog to high definition.

The multi-million-dollar digital upgrade will not only improve the quality of on-air presentations, but also reduce operational and maintenance costs, and increase ZNS’s capacity to produce quality, local programmes, Minister of National Security Tommy Turnquest said Tuesday.

The Minister added that the digitalization process would also enhance ZNS’s brand identity; provide a significant improvement in productivity, workflow and creativity; and enhance professionalism.

He said the signing also “advances” the government’s stated objective “of causing ZNS to become a producer of local programming, using the works of Bahamian writers, directors, artists, musicians, producers, and technicians.”

NASSAU, Bahamas – Nassau Airport Development Co’s (NAD) president and chief executive officer, Stewart Steeves, today announced the appointment of Kevin McDonald (pictured) to the position of vice president of maintenance and engineering, effective January 1, 2012.

McDonald joined NAD in September 2008 as director of maintenance and engineering, managing a large team responsible for electrical, mechanical and structural engineering and maintenance at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA).
