Ministry for Grand BahamaSylvia Earle, founder of the Sylvia Earle Alliance (SEA), has praised the government of The Bahamas for showing leadership in marine conservation and especially for its commitment to protect 20 per cent of the near-shore marine environment throughout the jurisdiction during the next ten years.

Earle made the comments during a courtesy call to newly appointed Minister of the Environment and Housing Kenred Dorsett in May.

New Director of Financial Services to be named next month

Minister of Financial Services Ryan Pinder suggested during a Bahamas Institute of Financial Services' seminar today that the new Director at the Ministry will be a well-known figure in the financial services in The Bahamas.

The new Director in the Ministry will be announced next month and is a “senior figure from the industry,” according to Minister of Financial Services Ryan Pinder.

Speaking at the Bahamas Institute of Financial Services’ (BIFS) seminar held at the British Colonial Hilton today, the Minister said the new Director would be promoted to the role July 1 and hinted that the position would be filled by a woman.

In its third phase of price reductions, the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) rolled out a permanent, repackaged post paid plan today, one that will offer the company’s 47,000 post paid customers lower calls and data rates and more texting.
