Cabinet Office appoints new Governor General

The Cabinet Office has announced that the Governor General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Dame Marguerite Pindling, will be stepping down 28 June 2019. She will be replaced by diplomat Cornelius Smith.

The Cabinet Office has announced that the Governor General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Dame Marguerite Pindling, will be stepping down 28 June 2019.

Dame Marguerite served as Governor General from 8th July 2014.

Cornelius Smith will be appointed as the next Governor General of The Bahamas with effect 28 June 2019.


Smith has served the Bahamian people as a senior Cabinet Member and as Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS) and Non-Resident Ambassador to Mexico, Malaysia and Columbia. He presently serves as The Bahamas’ Non-Resident Ambassador to six Central American countries.

Smith will be the 10th Bahamian to hold the office of Governor General.

Aristo Development announced this week it has completed construction on the $30 million luxury residential Thirty Six development on Paradise Island with the first residents taking occupancy.

Director general of The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, Joy Jibrilu, led The Bahamas contingent at the recent Caribbean Tourism Organization Week 2019, in New York City.
